    Hello everyone!

My name is Alaina and I’m the intern for Eventfull Planning this summer. I’m so excited to be working with this wonderful team and can’t wait to jump in.

I’m currently in between my junior and senior year at Indiana University in Bloomington. I am majoring in Event Planning in the Corporate & Business world (the title is liable to change again for the fourth time now) through the university’s Individualized Major Program. In other words, I made up my own major and designed the curriculum for it.

I found Eventfull Planning through The Art of the Table. (EXCELLENT event! If you haven’t been, GO!) It’s only been a week but I absolutely love these ladies and the end of the summer will be a sad time when I have to leave and head back to Bloomington.

This will most definitely be a WONDERFULL summer =)

Being environmentally friendly and making a conscious effort to “go green” is becoming increasingly popular in the event world. For some planners and clients, the desire to create an eco-friendly and sustainable event comes naturally. In our day-to-day lives at the office and at home, we attempt to go green by turning off unused lights and electronics, recycling, purchasing biodegradable and recycled products, and supporting local, organic and “green” businesses.

At Eventfull Planning, we strive to maintain and improve our efforts in “green” event planning and would like to offer you some tips!

When you are planning an event, try to incorporate some or all of the following ideas:

    • Hire a caterer that uses local/organic foods
    • Host the event during the day – using less electricity
    • If using candles – use soy based
    • Minimize the amount of driving guests will need to do
    • Donate leftover food rather than throwing it out
    • Use minimal paper – if needed use recycled paper
    • Use recycled glass or organic fruit as a centerpiece
    • Use organic cotton fabric

You can also create a theme for your event that revolves around the idea of being environmentally friendly. For instance, you can plan your wedding or event with a “rustic chic” style that integrates eco-friendly ideas while still staying sophisticated and elegant. This includes using items that are easily found in antique and second-hand stores, such as: mason jars, twine & burlap, old window frames, pails and baskets, and old books. Combine these decorative elements with a beautiful venue and a caterer who serves delicious food and you and your guests will be sure to have a great time.

Whether you want to combine a few “green” ideas or create an entirely sustainable event, there are many resources available to guide and inspire you!
